Dynasty Warriors

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 19, 2013, 6:40 AM

Since I'm a fan of ancient literature/history I've always been interested in this game but never actually played it because it's not really my kind of game. I tried Sengoku Basara and thought I might as well just watch the cutscenes on youtube. But I've been following Dynasty Warriors game news and content for quite some years. This is one of the more serious renditions of the novel, unlike some otome games, where Cao Cao.. Sun Quan....... Liu... Bei....... are the heartthrobs of 3kingdoms.. I just can't.

And I just realised... Guo Jia was a very recent addition to DW series appearing only in DW7. So.. they added in all the wives and historically irrelevant children(becos we need more Guans in this game, I only remember the son that died along with Guan Yu), but they forgot about Guo Jia?! He is one of my favourite characters in the novel, being Cao Cao's advisor in earlier times. I've always liked the strategists more (Guo Jia, Zhou Yu, Zhuge Liang, Lu Xun), Zhao Yun is the only exception. I see him as a lion tamer, since Cao Cao would listen to his advise even in his violent fits of anger. And d'awww Cao Cao lamenting that if only Guo Jia was here with him at Chibi, no homo. He died too early in the war that's why he's a rather forgotten character despite being a brilliant strategist Q_Q. I'm not too fond of his DW appearance as a blondie smooth talker with a billiard pole (no pls, srsly no.) as a weapon, although he's gradually starting to grow on me. Guo Jia was actually quite frivolous in his private life so the DW exaggeration was not unfounded, to the point that the other officials complained about it to Cao Cao. Cao Cao praised them for the report, then trolled them by joining Guo Jia in the fun. Despite the 15yr age gap they are very good friends.

Jiang Wei was a major character in DW7, probably because the game's focusing on the end parts of 3kingdoms. But my biggest impression about him in the book is that..

And that he's a really cute follower of Zhuge Liang <:
虽然说甜姜你还是不能变成丞相那样的终极黑寡妇

Lu Xun has been rising fast in popularity in the DW fandom recently, despite hanging around since DW1, must be the weird hat. My fav version of Lu Xun is in Fantasy Sango though.

Zhou Yu on the other hand, is getting forgotten by the DW fandom except as that guy at Chibi, his face is getting longer and paler with each version.

Sima Yi is a surprisingly cute tsundere lord. But my favourite in the game is Zhong Hui though. I thought his love-hate relationship with Deng Ai was cute but historically he actually did kill the guy, and Jiang Wei allied with him with the intention of killing him in the end. History is so cruel .-.

  • Mood: Euphoric

Lol I love Dynasty Warriors. Sun Shang Xiang was my favorite. I wonder if Liu Bei and her ever really got together. <_<

I am praying that there will be a Western release of DW8. I count DW7 and DW7XL among my all-time favorite games, but what with all the new faces added to the roster, some of them being characters I've long admired in the novel, how could I not wish to play this new one? I hate that so few people here in the States even know about the series, or mock it because, for DW2-5, it was basically reskinned versions of the exact same game; the franchise is so much deeper than that, and it's the best depiction of the Three Kingdoms era I've found to date (although the Red Cliff movie was an awesome depiction of the Battle of Chibi). Poor market value is the reason why Western gamers were gypped out of SW3XL and SW3:Empires; I despise the thought that Koei's biggest cash cow will suffer the same fate. I mean, DW7 was named one of the top-selling games in Europe at the time of its release, and DW8 is supposedly the best installment yet. Don't deny your Western fans DW love, Koei!

With the story modes being completely rewritten, and all sorts of What If scenerios added (Guo Jia at Chibi! Maybe Guan Yu survives Fan Castle! Maybe Sun Jian survives Huang Zu's ambush! Maybe Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang manage to talk Liu Bei out of attacking Wu at Yiling! Who knows?), and all the characters new to the roster, I don't understand how this WOULDN'T sell outside of Asia, if they would just take the time to properly advertise it. I mean, I can't wait to see what Zhang Chunhua adds to the Sima clan dynamic, and seeing Zhang Bao and Guan Xing in the games has been a personal dream of mine ever since I read the novel. Aside from the story and character value, just look at the trailers and teasers - DW8 is shaping up to be one of the prettiest games on the PS3, and Lord knows the voice acting has always been superb (for DW, at least. Some of the SW voice acting is...suspect). There's a shit-ton of replay value packed into this title, as in all of the Warriors games. Even if it requires another blankety-blank-blank-blank download from PSN, there is a serious cult following overseas that would worship Tecmo-Koei if they'd release it outside of Asia.

Here's to hoping Koei hears our pleas and takes mercy on us American, European, and Austrailian gamers! *raises glass and controller*

I love this series and been playing it since DW2. It is sad that they left out so much within their games and have revamped it to be more accurate starting with the PS versions and cleaning it up on the PS3 versions. Even the official forums were blowing up about the accurate info. It is fun if you don't mind the game play but it can get very boring very fast. It is worth checking out at least if your interest is high though.

I got into the DW games because of my love for the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel and the good ol' 1995 TV series! Played all the way from DW3 right up to DW7, but I've stopped and moved away when they announced DW8 because the character designs just got more and more ridiculous (e. g. Xiahou Dun has transformed into Vegeta, and there is now some vampire/gothic guy, etc) with even more new random irrelevant/fictional characters that just seem distracting from the story.

I love the Dynasty Warriors series. The games are fabulous in my opinion. My first favorite was and always will be Sun Ce. :D
But I find it funny how in DW7 Sima Zhao is well seems laidback a bit. I would of thought he would be like the rest, but its nice to have one Sima different. I also enjoy Zhong Hui and Jiang Wei. Haha

I have been playing the series since my first try playing DW3, since then I have been loving that game and I liked Zhen Ji in DW5, seeing I had a million KO with her and I liked her love story with her husband Cao Pi (who I still have a little crush on...must be the his voice or hair....), and I have played 7 and done ALL of the kingdoms and I think the story plot was nicely put considering when I played it on other games, I wondered what would happen if Sima Yi would take control....know I know.... ^_^
