I was planning to draw Lin Chong as the last of my Water Margin series... but even during the lineart stage I already knew this person could never fit that image.
So I went with the snow scenery and drew my own character. I love traditional generals, so I kept an antique bronze scheme there.
Been doing only light armor, should do a full armor someday.
Plum blossoms are my fav flower, they bloom in winter~
You paint wonderful pictures and tell so interesting details of East-Asian culture... so plum blossoms bloom in winter, how interesting! And how lovely, the flowers, the (very young!) general, his clothes and the elegant position how he´s standing there in the winterly scenery. Very fine work, thank you for sharing it.
one of my favorite and most rewarding ways to draw is to just start drawing and let the picture show me what it would like to be. Takes alot of mediatation to keep away all the preconcieved ideas and to channel whatever it is you're trying to convey to yourself, but it's relaxing and sometimes reveals things you didn't conciously know...
I love how you did stick to the armor love. It really makes him pop out with such a quiet scene behind him. I would love to see you try to take on full armor one day. I believe it will be quite an interesting challenge for you but I know you will do fine like always.
Very fine work, thank you for sharing it.
