Hyakumonogatari- 100 candles would be placed in a circle, and the players would each tell a ghoulish tale. As each tale ended, the storyteller would douse a single candle. With the vanishing of the final light, a youkai would be summoned.
I've always been interested in youkai.
That kimono reminded me why the last time I did a Japanese theme painting was 4yrs ago kthxbye
How lucky we are that you painted a kimono again - itīs an amazingly beautiful work. And the story belonging to it - simply fascinating. There is something like a spell you cast (with your art) on the viewer and thereby you make us feel spellbound... thatīs like I feel looking at this wonderful picture, reading the text and imagining the whole situation of Hyakumonogatari... Now Iīm still wondering what kind of ghost a "youkai" is... a soul of the dead? Iīll find it out. - I am sorry but I know so very few about Chinese (or Japanese) culture. Thank you for sharing your art with me.
Beautiful as Always and I love the design on her Kimono. It is really interesting and makes her stand out very well. I never heard of the 100 candles but it sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing that interesting bit of info as well.
